Easter Cave 4 Day Hike
Intermediate Drakensberg Hike
The Easter cave 4 day hike starts at the Mnweni cultural center. We stroll up the beautiful Ntonjelana valley and camp just below the huge cliffs of the Saddle just to the North of us. This pass is used regularly by the locals as they go to and from Lesotho with their donkeys. This means the pass is not too difficult by Drakensberg standards. The Zulus call it the SS pass because it twists and turns a lot. Read here to see how to prepare for your hike with us.
Easter Cave is very sheltered, providing some protection from the elements.
We take 2 days to get to the top of the escarpment at just below 3000m above sea level. Now we are in Lesotho but don’t worry, there is no border post here. We are in a real wilderness area.
As we summit Ntonjelana pass we walk left up the Kwakwatsi river valley and on to arrive at Easter cave. First we must load up with water as there is not much at the cave. After a cozy night in Easter cave we have to walk back down Ntonjelana pass to our cars waiting at the bottom.
