3 Day Overland 4×4 Tour of Lesotho
I usually do the 3 day overland tour of Lesotho in late summer. Of course you can ask me to do this trip any time that suits you. The mountain kingdom of Lesotho is wild and remote and guaranteed to recharge your soul. March is a great time to explore this mountainous country. Nature is still green after the summer rains and it is not too cold yet. Check here to see when we are going to Lesotho again.
Summer is spent enjoying simple mountain lodges.
Warm cozy beds are part of the experience which comes in handy even in summer. You never know what the weather will do high up in the mountains.mountains.
Day 1 is a drive up the famous Sani pass into Lesotho. We do go through a border so don’t forget your passport. There is either a self drive option or you can join me in one of my vehicles.
After a visit to the highest pub in Africa we carry on into the mountain kingdom. Depending on the weather I like to enjoy lunch with a view on top of Black mountain. It is the highest we get to on this trip at 3250m above sea level. Imagine the views.
Travel to Mokhotlong is on a tar road.
We pass through the town of Mokhotlong on our way to our first overnight stop. Tonight we stay at Highlands lodge. After some simple luxury and breakfast on day 2 we soon turn off the main road for some 4×4 fun. The Kao mine road is rough but unbelievably beautiful. Lunch is a picnic on the side of the road and then some more stunning mountain scenery before we head back to Highlands lodge for another night.
After supper we sit around the fire solving the worlds problems.
The last day is a relaxing drive back down Sani pass into South Africa. We usually get back to Pietermaritzburg by 2pm. If you drove your own vehicle we say goodbye at Underburg. You may want to stay in this town for a bit of fly fishing or head back to your home.
After a 3 day overland 4×4 tour of Lesotho your battery will be nicely charged.
