Long Weekend Overland 4×4 Tour of Lesotho

On our long weekend overland 4×4 tour of Lesotho we leave Pietermaritzburg and drive through the rolling hills of KwaZulu Natal on our way to Sani Pass. On the way I like to pop in for the best tea and cake in South Africa. Himeville is 2 hours into our journey so perfect timing. After a stretch of the legs we start the real adventure.

It is a 4×4 track up Sani pass leaving South Africa.
After getting our passports stamped at the SA border we ascend 900 vertical meters in 8km and the views are stunning. Sani pass is an exciting 4×4 track getting us to the top of the mighty Drakensberg mountains. Right on top of the escarpment is the mountain kingdom of Lesotho. Nearby is the famous Sani pub. It is the highest pub in Africa so we have to visit and have a beverage.
For now there is a lovely tar road but we love to do a bit of 4x4ring so drive up to Black mountain. This is 3250m above sea level so great views over the mountain kingdom.
We can do this 2 day overland 4×4 tour of Lesotho in summer or winter because we stay at Masobasoba lodge.
There is a huge fire place and warm beds so no worries. Of course we are in the Drakensberg mountains so must explore the surrounding area. Expect stunning mountain views. I thoroughly enjoy cooking and we enjoy the peaceful evening while having a good old South African braai. The next day we drive back down Sani pass into South Africa. This is the perfect getaway for a long weekend overland 4×4 tour of Lesotho!
