Blindmans Corner Overnight Hike.
Easy Drakensberg Hike
Family Friendly Drakensberg Hike
The Blindmans Corner overnight hike is a perfect hike for beginner hikers or people that want to get out into the Drakensberg mountains over 2 days. The campsite is stunning as we camp below the mighty Cathkin Peak.

Also nearby is Sterkhorn which shows off beautifully with the early morning sun shining on the huge cliffs. You can click here to see our Upcoming Hikes
The 2 day hike starts at Monks Cowl in the Northern Drakensberg.
This is where we sign the register and pay for our permits. I like to stay at Monks Cowl campsite the night before and have a nice braai.

From the start of the hike we start going up. The camp is at 2200m altitude and we start at about 1500m. Some uphill is needed if we want to have some amazing views. Luckily we also stroll through some cool indigenous forests and stop for a break after 45 minutes of hiking. Here we can check out the Crystal Falls and maybe a quick dip to cool down.
A short bit further along the path we end up at the Sphinx. This is a lovely spot to have a break and enjoy the views. We have already climbed a bit so looking back from where we just hiked is great. However it is still upwards and onwards. Next is Breakfast Stream. I actually don’t know how this got it’s name. But we can now see where our camp will be.
Another 100m and we stop for a well earned lunch. There is no rush as we relax and then another 1.5 km and we arrive at our camp site for the night.
Here we are at the contour path that stretches along most of the Drakensberg. Left is towards the steep Ships Prow Pass and right is to Grays Pass which gets you to the top of Champagne Castle. That is another hike that takes 4 days to complete! By now we are in need of some tea and cookies. Very nice.
The Sterkhorn Peak is above us and there is time for a wander up there to see the views.
You just go as far as you want.

After a perfect night enjoying nature and the beautiful Drakensberg we have some breakfast and then a 3 hr hike back down to our cars at Monks Cowl.
This is a 6 km hike each way without including the climb up Sterkhorn Peak from 1500m to 2200m altitude so is considered an easy hike with some effort required.
Bring the family and get out in nature.
