Naukluft Hiking Trail Namibia!

Naukluft trail Namibia hike

Posing at the start of the Naukluft trail in Namibia with Drakensberghiker

The Naukluft Hiking Trail Namibia explores the Namib Naukluft National Park . The word ‘Naukluft’ means narrow ravine in German.

The Naukluft Hiking Trail is a well-known hikers destination.  However we only hike in the Naukluft in winter as it is too hot to hike here in the middle of summer. Of course if you get your own group of friends you are welcome any time between April and September. Please click here to see my YouTube video of the Naukluft Hiking Trail.

Most days are around 6-7 hrs walking and often follow Zebra paths.

Hopefully we see some of them as well as Gemsbok and Kudu. If you click here you can read what to bring on your hike.

We camp at the Naukluft Camp Site at the start of the hike and the nights are spent sleeping in stone huts. There is water available using hand pumps at each hut, but we need to carry at least 3 liters each every day.

On the last day of the hike we are picked up and driven 1 hour to Sesriem. Here we can have a hot shower and some cold ones while having a lovely braai.

You do have the option of flying to Windhoek or driving two days with us from Jo’burg.

This is the 8 day hike but there is an option of  just hiking the 4-day Naukluft trail and then a drive on to Sesriem to camp. This is done while the rest of the group carries on with the 8 day option. Camping at Sesriem allows us an early start into the Sossusvlei. Here we get to walk up some of the biggest dunes in the world. We spend the day here checking out the Sesriem canyon and check out 500 year old petrified trees at Dead Vlei.

After all this fun we camp again at Sesriem camp site and the last day is a 4-hour drive back to Windhoek airport.
