The cathedral peak circuit hike starts at the car park below Cathedral Peak Hotel. After 4 days we finish at the hotel in time for a lovely cup of tea after a few days of fantastic hiking.

We walk along the Bell traverse on our way to Cathedral peak with Drakensberghiker
On this hike, we saunter up Organ Pipes Pass via Windy Gap. I am sure that you can actually hear the Organ Pipes playing a tune. This is quite a strenuous day, starting at 1500m and finishing just below 3000m over 11km.
However, the views are well worth it and we camp near a crystal clear stream below the mighty Cleft Peak.
The next day we wander up and over Cleft Peak, which at 3288m has incredible views to die for. Then on and along the Drakensberg escarpment, to camp above Mlambonja pass. We do have the option of also sleeping in Twins Cave at the end of the day.
Now the adventure really starts! My favorite day of hiking in the Drakensberg is the hike along the Bell Traverse. The views along this route are unbelievable but there are some very exposed sections so it is always weather and group dependent.
We start off at around 3000m and at the end of the Bell Traverse we have lunch at the base of Cathedral peak. Here we are at around 2500m and can look up at Cathedral peak which is 3005m. After lunch we do a climb to check out the views from the top of the free standing peak. The views are unbelievable from up there too.
Camping on the ridge below Cathedral peak on a hike with Drakensberghiker
After climbing Cathedral Peak. we wander back down and camp on a ridge below the Peak.
While having a cup of tea after a long day we can think about what we have just accomplished.
The last day is a gentle stroll back down to Cathedral Peak Hotel in time for a juicy refreshment taking about 3 hours.
