Bird-watching
in KwaZulu-Natal and the Drakensberg
We will arrange a South African bird-watching holiday for you,
including diverse habitats within Sough Africa, such as the
KwaZulu-Natal Drakensberg, and Karkloof Forest near
Pietermaritzburg.
You will have an opportunity to get up close and study the birds
of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa ... including a visit to a
lammergeier
hide (seasonal, between April & October) in Giant's Castle.
South African Birds that you may see on our Drakensberg
excursions include the
Cape Vulture,
Lanner
Falcon,
Black
Eagle (Verreaux's Eagle), and the endangered
Bearded
Vulture.
In the South African Drakensberg you will have an opportunity to
see these birds in their natural environment, far away from
urban habitation - a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity enjoyed by
very few keen bird-watchers. In addition to the birds of
prey mentioned above, you will also have an opportunity to see a
host of doves, sunbirds and many of the other birds making up
KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa's avian population, under the
tutelage and keen eye of Ian Shooter who will assist you with
identification and bird-spotting.
We will take you to Karkloof - one of the top South African
birding spots, where you may see
Wattled
Crane, the beautiful1
Crowned
Crane and the
Blue Crane,
which is South Africa's National Bird. All these Cranes
are listed as endangered species.
